A Prayer for a Rule of Life
May We Always Dance with the Mystery of Love.
Divine Lover, Divine Beloved, Divine Love,
Help me to live my life so that I may be an icon of your grace.
Guide me to order my days in response to your peace and joy.
Show me how every minute is sacred, every day a new sacrament.
Empower me to remember you always, that I may embody gratitude.
Call me to be all that I am capable of, as an act of worship for you.
Teach me the wisdom of balance, of rest, of limits and of possibility.
Form in me the desire to be free, to be yours, to love, and to be love.
With you flowing into and through my heart, I know life is an adventure.
Thank you for making me a dance partner of your Mystery.
With eyes twinkling I pray,
Amen.
About this prayer: I wrote this while on my annual 8-day retreat at the Ignatius House Retreat Center in Atlanta. My retreat director and I talked about the possibility of me revising/reshaping my rule of life. Believing that such an effort needs to begin with prayer, I wrote this prayer, to express the yearnings I bring to the Mystery as I reflect on how I structure my days. I hope you like it. You’re always welcome to share my prayers, all I ask is an acknowledgment and (if printed) a link back to this Substack: (www.anamchara.net works fine)
