Divine Mystery, Well of Silence, Source of Love and Life,
I have a confession to make: I am weary.
I am weary of all the rancor and contempt that shapes the tone of our public life.
I am weary of politicians and pundits who profit off of keeping us divided from each other.
I am weary of religious leaders who promote hatred and division in your name.
I am weary of faith communities that teach spirituality is all about gatekeeping.
I am weary of our entertainment culture that just seems to keep getting louder and darker.
I am weary of an economy that places profit above people.
I am weary of just how overwhelming all the suffering and injustice of the world continues to be.
In light of this, I beg you for the grace of rest.
Give me rest, so that I may be renewed in my abiding trust in your indwelling spirit.
Give me rest, so that I may be refreshed in my faith in the best qualities of humanity.
Give me rest, so that I may be restored in believing that my actions and efforts to conform to your will — the will of enlightened love — can truly make a real and abiding difference.
Give me rest, so that I may be rejuvenated in all my relationships, finding ways to be kind even to those with whom I disagree.
Give me rest, so that I may be reinvigorated in my commitment to daily prayer and contemplation, knowing that your peace and loving presence is the ground of my being.
Give me rest, so that I may be reconnected to all people, loving self, neighbors and even enemies with the conscious and joyful love you shower upon me.
Give me rest, so that I may embody a true revival of your deep, silent, loving compassion.
All this I ask in the name of you love, your compassion, your peace and joy, and your abiding mystery.
Amen.
