Mystical Triads 34-36
An Ancient Welsh Poetic Form offers more insights into contemplative living
Hopeful ways of understanding why goodness remains relevant:
Goodness is loyal: it is a countersign to the consumerist cynicism of our age;
Goodness is friendly: it cares but does not violate our boundaries;
Goodness is kind: it seeks a gentle relationship rather than austere isolation.
Meaningful perspectives that call us to know sacred truth:
Truth is simple: we need memorize no story, but simply say what we genuinely perceive and know;
Truth is just; it may hurt, but it never harms, it only witnesses to what is abiding and real;
Truth is unitive: there is no duality of falsehood, only what is real and then some ways we misunderstand that reality.
Lovely ways to proclaim the eternal priority of sacred beauty:
Beauty delights us in the wellspring of joy;
Through beauty we see what is beyond all surfaces;
Only in beauty can we authentically meet our deepest selves.
Three more Mystical Triads for you (click this link to see the previous triads). These short contemplative verses are inspired by an ancient Welsh poetic form that offer insight into history, mythology, and wisdom. Inspired by the wisdom of the mystics, these “Mystical Triads” invite us to consider how we can embody contemplative insight in our lives today.
Triads 34-36 were inspired by the Platonic universals: goodness, truth and beauty as three essential components not only of wisdom and spirituality, but indeed of living life authentically and well. The three great branches of theology are directly correlated to the universals: dogmatic or systematic theology seeks to know and articulate divine truth; moral or ethical theology seeks to recognize and apply divine standards of holiness and goodness, while mystical theology is, of course, the theology of divine beauty. Perhaps you can think of other ways to correlate the universals to mystical wisdom and contemplative practice.
