Pathways to initiation into the mystical life:
Choosing to turn away from all the ways we resist or oppose love, in our lives and in the world;
Consciously opening our hearts to the guidance and presence of the Spirit of love;
Recognizing that we are one with the Spirit and with all of creation.
Ways in which the sacred mystery calls us into our true self:
Befriending the whispers in our heart, that remind us who we truly are, deeper than any outside pressure or influence;
Yielding to the call of loving delight and authentic desire, trusting that where they meet is an invitation into a sacred place;
Committing to a life of love, no matter what form or family context offers us the place where we can live this vocation.
Thoughts on how the mystical life fosters healing and transformation:
Acknowledging our own weakness and woundedness, for we are all broken yet we all shimmer with potential;
Learning to speak caring words of truth, no matter how humbling or vulnerable such a confession may make us;
Seeking help when needed (and offering it when we can), for it is in relationship and community that life truly blossoms.
Three more Mystical Triads for you (click this link to see the previous triads). These short contemplative verses are inspired by an ancient Welsh poetic form that offer insight into history, mythology, and wisdom. Inspired by the wisdom of the mystics, these “Mystical Triads” invite us to consider how we can embody contemplative insight in our lives today.
Triads 37-39 were inspired by the seven sacraments in the catholic tradition, traditionally understood as sacraments of initiation (baptism, confirmation, communion); sacraments of vocation (marriage, ordination); and sacraments of healing (reconciliation, anointing). I tried to write these poems in a way that honors the spiritual heart of the sacraments, yet expresses their beauty in a manner that is universal and inclusive. Perhaps you can think of other ways to correlate the sacraments to mystical wisdom and contemplative practice.
